Big George Foreman: A Boxing Legend Mourned at age 76

A Career Spanning Decades

Foreman, known as “Big George” in the ring, competed for decades, beginning in the 1960s. He achieved numerous accolades, including an Olympic gold medal and multiple championship title belts. Notably, he won the world heavyweight title twice during his illustrious career.

The Rumble in the Jungle

In 1974, Foreman lost his first heavyweight title to Muhammad Ali in their legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” bout. Despite this loss, his professional boxing record remained remarkable, boasting 68 knockouts—almost double that of Ali. Over the course of his career, he suffered only five defeats.

Two-Time Heavyweight Champion

Foreman first claimed the world heavyweight championship in 1973. In an extraordinary comeback, he reclaimed the title in 1994 at the age of 45, making him the oldest heavyweight champion in history. He retired from professional boxing in 1997.
