Mahama Will Not Reclaim Presidency, Says Actor
Despite potential support from prominent pastors across the country, actor David Osei believes that John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will not win the upcoming presidential elections.
Propaganda and Allegations Against the NPP
Osei addressed the ongoing propaganda and accusations directed at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), particularly concerning illegal mining, commonly known as Galamsey.
He emphasized that illegal mining is not confined to one political party but is rather a nationwide issue involving individuals from both NPP and NDC, as well as other influential figures across different sectors.
The Deep-Rooted Galamsey Crisis
Galamsey has been one of Ghana’s most persistent challenges, with research indicating that efforts to combat it have largely failed due to political interference.
Osei pointed out that the involvement of powerful groups—including chiefs, politicians, and business elites—has made it nearly impossible to enforce strict regulations and bring illegal mining activities under control.
David Osei’s Statement on the Issue
The actor expressed his perspective in a social media post, stating:
“Even if every pastor were to pray and anoint former President Mahama, he still wouldn’t reclaim the presidency. The ongoing propaganda against the NPP, including accusations related to illegal mining, will not succeed. The illegal mining issue involves individuals from both the NDC and NPP, as well as politicians, pastors, and the general public. Some of us are not just spectators; our prayers have power.”
Illegal Mining and Its Role in Ghana’s Elections
As Ghana approaches its next elections, illegal mining has become a major point of debate, with political parties blaming each other for failing to tackle the crisis.
The ruling NPP has faced public outrage over its inability to eliminate Galamsey, despite President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s promises to resolve the issue.
However, David Osei insists that Galamsey is a national challenge that transcends political lines and involves a diverse group of stakeholders, making it difficult for any single government to eradicate the problem entirely.
