Maxwell Chikumbutso, long surrounded by controversy, recently appeared on state broadcaster ZBC, declaring he had developed technology capable of generating endless electricity. However, an in-depth ZimEye investigation, which has monitored his claims since 2022, uncovered major inconsistencies, leading to the conclusion that his so-called inventions lack credibility.

Chikumbutso’s troubled past extends beyond dubious technology claims. The only confirmed possession tied to him is an unlicensed firearm, for which he has faced armed robbery charges since 2018. These revelations cast further doubt on his credibility and raise serious questions about his real intentions.
Failed Vehicle Launch Raises More Doubts
February 10, 2025, was supposed to mark the grand launch of Chikumbutso’s vehicles, as previously announced by President Mnangagwa. However, as of today, not a single unit has been sold in Zimbabwe, fueling skepticism and public outrage.
Public Reaction: Frustration and Mockery
Social media platforms have been flooded with comments from disillusioned Zimbabweans questioning the authenticity of Chikumbutso’s inventions. Some mocked his failure to deliver, with one user sarcastically remarking,
“So you have 0 in your own country… Doomed man.”
Another added,
“A new invention straight to a museum.”
Unverified Claims of International Demand
Despite the lack of local sales, Chikumbutso continues to insist that his technology is highly sought after abroad. In an interview with TechMag.TV, he boasted of receiving large international orders, including:
- 3,000 units for South Africa
- 20,000 units for Zambia
- Potential sales to investors from Switzerland and Israel
However, when asked about the number of units available for purchase in Zimbabwe, he dodged the question, instead referring to unnamed international buyers who had supposedly “tested and confirmed” his technology.
ZimEye Investigation Exposes Falsehoods
A scathing ZimEye investigation at Chikumbutso’s residence in Madokero, Harare, further discredited his claims. Instead of using his self-proclaimed “endless electricity”, he was found relying on regular ZESA power—just like every other Zimbabwean.
When confronted, Chikumbutso admitted:
“We have never powered 300 houses,”
directly contradicting his previous claims that his technology was already in use. This revelation further erodes his credibility, making it increasingly unlikely that his energy solutions ever worked in the first place.
Government Endorsement Under Scrutiny
Zimbabweans are now demanding answers, questioning why the government endorsed Chikumbutso’s claims without verification. One frustrated citizen asked,
“Why not make mass production so we see these inventions in hardware stores, roads, and in actual use?”
