The Birth of The Beyond Investments

The Beyond Investments was founded in 2022, several years and many trips after its visionary founder, Dre Taylor, journeyed to Ghana. His pivotal experience came during the Year of the Return in 2019, an event that drew hundreds of thousands of individuals from the African diaspora to reconnect with their ancestral homeland.

This historic moment commemorated the 400-year anniversary of the transatlantic slave trade, marking the forced displacement of millions of Africans across the Caribbean and the Americas.

Answering the Call to Return

The Year of the Return was more than a symbolic gesture—it was a powerful invitation to reconnect, and the diaspora responded in overwhelming numbers. Following its success, 2020 was declared the beginning of “Beyond the Return.”

This new chapter wasn’t just about visiting—it was about planting roots, building legacies, and creating lasting connections. Dre Taylor was deeply moved by his experience and recognized the importance of looking beyond the return, not just for himself, but for others seeking to experience the richness of Africa—the culture, the people, the land, the food, and the abundance of opportunities.

From Tours to Transformation

To help others experience what he had, Dre initially partnered with a local tour company to bring more members of the diaspora back to Ghana.

During these visits, he observed a growing interest in real estate investment—not only for relocation but also for those seeking to frequently visit or invest in the region’s future. This insight sparked the vision for something greater.

Recognizing the potential to make a broader impact, Dre joined forces with Michael “Toks” Williams, a retired professor with over 20 years of experience in Ghana and a deep connection to the region. A native of Washington, D.C., Toks brought a wealth of knowledge and a shared passion for development. Together, they co-founded The Beyond Investments.
